Jerry and the Money Manager

Tom, a buddy of Jerry's, was the Administrative officer in an Air Force student squadron. One day the commander received orders to report to another base for duty, which meant Tom took over temporarily.

Over the course of the next two weeks, Tom dealt with every command function. One day, the clerk brought in a bad check notice that had about fourteen entries
on it, all under one individual's name.

Writing bad checks was grounds for a discharge and possible jail. When Tom looked at the name, he was dumbfounded. It was the troop leader.

Tom had him ushered into the office after formation and showed him the notice and asked for an explanation. The troop leader's exact words were: "Gee, Lieutenant,
how'd I know there was no money in the bank? We still got checks in the register."
